Purchasing power bh. Citizens are getting smaller: The markets are empty, followed by new price increases

Weather disturbances have caused great damage to farmers in our country this year, and Bosnia and Herzegovina expect new prices for basic food items such as milk, meat, fruits, vegetables ...

Purchase a piece

The consequences have already started to be felt both by consumers and by manufacturers. According to data from the Federal Bureau of Statistics, last month sales in markets were reduced, there were fewer sellers, stalls, and products.

- The value of sales of agricultural products on the market in the Federation of BiH in October this year amounted to BAM 1.856.076, which represents a decrease in sales by KM 37.753 or 1.99% compared to October 2016, - it is said in the statement of the Institute.

In October, most vegetables were sold (45.7 percent), followed by fruit (21.6 percent), poultry and eggs (8.9 percent), honey and wax (8.1), potatoes (5.5 percent), grapes (4.8 percent), milk (3.3) and wheat (1 percent).

City markets in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Mostar, Bihać and Zenica are mostly half-empty. Retailers are getting smaller, as are customers. As sellers at the Ciglane Market in Sarajevo told us, citizens are often buying a piece, as purchasing power is getting weaker.

Ermin Veladzic, president of the Association of Milk and Meat Producers of USK, confirmed that the sale of all products declined.

- People do not have any incentives and give up agriculture. They have supplies for the next few months. You will see what prices will be in March and April. Meat will increase by 100 percent - Veladzic warned.

Blockade of work

He pointed out that the situation in agriculture was never worse and that the cause was not only summer droughts and winter frosts, but also the incompetence of the federal government towards producers.

- The government's attitude is catastrophic. The federal government does not want to respect the decision of the FBiH Parliament to direct the clearing debt to settling debts, that is, that everything goes to agriculture. We are brought into the situation to block their work - concluded Veladzic.

High demand for dairy products

Sales of all products dropped, except for dairy products, by 25 percent. Although dairy products have increased, according to Veladzic, sales and demand for them have increased, as milk is missing in the European Union as well.

- All products have been pre-sold for China for two years. Everything that is produced is bought by China - said Veladzic.
