The Great Mission / Zuckerberg promised: In 2018, we will fix Facebook
In the midst of an increasing number of criticisms linked to Facebook's negative impact on society, company president Mark Zuckerberg announced that his challenge for 2018 "is to focus on correcting all these important issues."
Zuckerberg's New Year's Decider, which has been firmly followed for several years, is just a confirmation of how terrible it was for 2017 for Facebook and its users. "There was a lot of work ahead of Facebook - it was about protecting the community from abuse and hatred, defense against interference by foreign countries or ensuring that time spent with Facebook is good," Zuckerberg wrote in a statement.
"We will not be able to stop all the mistakes and abuse of the system, but the fact is that at this point we are doing too much harm in enforcing our rules and in preventing the misuse of the available tools." At the beginning of 2017, we recall, the head of Facebook decided to make a tour of the US in the hope of getting to know 'ordinary' Americans in all fifty countries. As Zuckerberg met the nation, an increasing number of critics clashed on Facebook accusing the social network of a number of problems that America is facing today.
Over the past year, on several occasions, we witnessed attempts to curb the rapid increase in disinformation, including those that enabled Russian agents to influence the presidential election. Finally, the company openly admitted that its product could negatively affect the user's mental health. As Zuckerberg plans to deal with this, we will find out in less than twelve months.
