The Russian army on the road to Simferopol, Ukraine gathers reservists

Simferopol - A convoy of hundreds of Russian troops moving toward the Crimean capital of Simferopol , reports the AP .

On the way from Sevastopol , the Crimean port where the Russian fleet stationed , to Simferopol ranges 12 military trucks with soldiers , armored vehicle " tiger " as well as two ambulances , reported the AP , citing eyewitnesses .

Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected Western calls to withdraw forces , saying that Russia has the right to protect its interests and the Russian people in the Crimea and other parts of Ukraine .

Putin 's meeting with U.S. President Barak Obama pointed to the criminal activities of Ukrainian ultra-nationalists who support the current government in Kiev .

Russian president spoke about the mortal danger they are exposed to Russian citizens on the territory of Ukraine .
Putin stressed that in case of an escalation of violence in the east of Ukraine and the Crimea , Russia reserves the right to protect its interests and people .

Meanwhile , a referendum on the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea will be held on 30th March , said last night the Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov . Earlier, the Assembly Crimean referendum scheduled for 25th May .

Declared total mobilization

Ukraine announced a general mobilization after the Secretary of the National Security Council Andriy Parubij said that the whole country will be placed on full combat readiness .

Defense Ministry invited all reservists who have now to apply the recruitment office .
The National Security Council said yesterday that the military must prepare for the fight and that the intensified security measures around airports , nuclear power plants and other strategic locations .

Kiev , meanwhile, has requested help from NATO.

Meanwhile , Russian troops took the gun from radar and naval base in the Crimea and asked the staff to support the legitimate leaders of the peninsula , appeared today with Interfax , citing a source in the Ministry of Defence .

The source said that the Russian soldiers took guns , rifles and ammunition from a radar station in the city of Sudak .
Another group of Russian soldiers took weapons from the Ukrainian naval training center in the port city of Sevastopol .
