The policeman who found Ajlana: I prayed to God that he is still alive
Turkish police officer who found and raised the body of the deceased three-year Syrian boy Ajlana Kurdija, whose death shocked the world public, said he thought of his own son when he saw the body of a child on the beach in the Turkish resort of Bodrum.
The officer Mehmet Çıplak in an interview with the Turkish Dogan agency recalled that, as he walked toward him and lifted him out of the sand, praying that the boy was still alive, transferred the AP.
"When I approached the boy, I said to myself: 'Dear God, I hope he's alive." But he showed no signs of life. I was broken, "recalls Çıplak.
He added that he and I have a six year old son and that, when he saw the body of a child, he thought of his son and put the place Ajlanovog father.
"Words can not describe how the scene was sad and tragic," he added.
The policeman said that he did not know that a photo of him holding the body of a dead boy was taken and said: "I was just doing my job."
The roll-over two boats with refugees during the trip from Turkey to the Greek island of Kos drowned 12 people, among them Ajlan, his five-year brother and their mother, a photo Ajlanovog lifeless body lying face down in the sand, shook the entire international public.
Ajlan was buried on Friday in the Syrian city Kobane, which itself is a symbol of resistance to the Syrian Kurds against the Islamic State.
