Pendes and Mogherini signed an agreement on participation in EU operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendes and High Commissioner for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini signed in Brussels agreement establishing a framework for the participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in EU operations for crisis management, reports news agency Patria.
This agreement, as its name suggests, is a general framework for the participation of both military and civilian personnel of Bosnia and Herzegovina in crisis management operations of the EU.
The agreement does not explicitly accept the obligations in terms of mandatory contributions and participation of the Armed Forces, police forces or civilian representatives of BiH in crisis management operations conducted by the EU, but its conclusion is a necessary precondition for a possible contribution to joint participation in operations.
On this occasion, Minister Pendes said the signing of this agreement represents an important step which demonstrates the intention and readiness of Bosnia and Herzegovina to contribute to common security and defense policy of the European Union and a strong incentive to the process of integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union.
The agreement was signed as part of a two-day visit to BiH MoD delegation headed by Minister Pendes Brussels, a delegation of the BiH MoD will also participate in the work of the European defense summit (EDS) at the invitation of the Director of the Munich security conference, and with the support of the Government of Bavaria and the European Union, which are also and organizers of EDS, said the BiH MoD.
