Mr. Dragan Covic spoke in the UN in Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to cooperate with its neighbors and international partners

Predsjedavajći BiH Presidency Dragan Covic today in his address to the UN Summit on the adoption of the Post - 2015 Development Agenda in New York was pleased to have the opportunity to speak on "this historic summit on issues that are particularly important for the present and the future of humanity". - United in a common belief in the values enshrined in the Charter of the Organization, pledge to give new meaning to the vision of a just and sustainable world, freed of poverty, fear and oppression of every kind - said Covic.

Indeed, we said further, witnessed a number of achievements in our lives, that were beyond the imagination of our ancestors. He pointed out that "the incredible technological advances was the guiding principle of our economies and societies." Covic believes that progress has been made in eradicating hunger has been slow and uneven, but that the achieved results gave hope that this scourge can be eradicated in our lifetime. - The average life expectancy has more than doubled in the last century.

We can proudly say that in the classrooms more children than ever, where they actually place - said Covic. He expressed concern about "the damage we have inflicted on the planet and ourselves in the past decades", stating that the greatest threats the world faces today are poverty, unemployment, natural disasters, violence and terrorism. Daily newspaper reports of unimaginable human suffering in many parts of the world affected by conflict, including a huge refugee crisis, require quick and effective responses. - It takes a united effort to be confronted with all these threats, and greater determination to correct the consequences of our mistakes and misdeeds of the past.

A common approach should build on positive experiences and lessons learned, in order to reach a comprehensive and ambitious agenda in 2030 - said Covic. The most powerful message that should, in his view, to send at this historic moment is "our renewed sense of responsibility and determination to work together with all interested parties." - Such a comprehensive agenda is a guarantee that no one will be left behind.

For this purpose must be to achieve an appropriate balance between economic, social and environmental dimensions. Efficient and integrated solutions are only possible through a systematic approach that will work in all three dimensions of sustainable development. I do not see no other way in which to achieve sustainable development in addition to the positive and permanent changes. Fifteen years from now, the world can and should be a place of universal respect for human rights - said Covic. According to his words must continue to work on improving the role of women and their full involvement in the development of societies, especially in the decision making process.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Covic, remains committed to the protection, promotion and respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without exception, as specified in the Final Document of the Summit. - In the last five years the population of my country is faced with the true meaning of climate change; it is not only and in different weather conditions. More refers to the inability of food during drought years, and because people are forced to leave their homes during the floods. Refers to the scarcity of clean, safe drinking water, which is rapidly becoming luxury goods at the time of floods and droughts. Therefore, along with millions of others around the world we place our hopes in the Climate Change Conference of the UN, which will be held in Paris next December.

We must believe that the outcome of the Paris Conference to produce the progress that is essential - said Covic. For that reason urged Parties to the Charter to redouble their efforts to achieve a legally binding universal treaty on climate change. Without a doubt, considered Covic, there is a strong link between peace, stability and sustainable development.

He said that BiH will continue to cooperate with its neighbors and international partners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance, to act proactively in achieving the strategic objectives that will strengthen peace, stability and prosperity in the region. - So I can assure you that my country strongly supports the implementation of Agenda 2030. Our own commitment to promoting sustainable, efficient and stable economic growth and the achievement of a just social environment through functional democratic institutions, has been confirmed in the Reform Agenda of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2015 to 2018, we have recently adopted. Sometimes the best strategies fail to produce the desired outcome unless they are supported by equally credible ways of implementation. Systematic investment in education, institutional, technological and human resources is of great importance for many developing countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Therefore, the development, implementation and monitoring of our national strategy must include the resources and efforts of all stakeholders - parliamentarians, academics, civil society and the private sector - said the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Stating that the troubles with which we face today know no boundaries and that also borders should not know the solidarity in our world, points out that "solidarity must combine responsibility and respect for national ownership of development on the one hand, and willingness to provide assistance, on the other hand ".

He pointed out that enhanced global partnership for sustainable development really needs to be a global platform for the exchange of best practices in financing, trade, technology and capacity building. Action Agenda Addis Ababa, said Covic, made it a strong foundation for the revival and the implementation of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. - Undoubtedly, we should, as a first step, to start with what is recognized as our unfinished business - the full realization of the Millennium Development Goals.

We should keep our promises. Today the peoples of our countries not only look forward to us. They believe that the world can still change for the better. Equality, prosperity, dignity and security for all people - are outcomes that future generations expect of us, and I am therefore convinced that we can and must achieve - said Covic in his address at the UN summit in New York, said the Department for Relations Public Affairs of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
