Russia sends anti-aircraft missile systems to Syria

Russia says warplanes could be abducted in the countries bordering with Syria and used for attacks on Russian forces.
Russia has sent a missile systems to Syria to protect its military forces, said the commander of the Russian Air Force Viktor Bondarjev.

He said that the warplanes could be abducted in the countries bordering with Syria and used to attack the Russian forces, reports Reuters.

"We evaluated all possible threats. You're not only fighter jets, bombers and helicopters, but also missile systems," said Bodarjev for the Russian daily Komsomolskaya Pravda, adding that Russian forces must be prepared.
Missiles and bombs

Russian aircraft began strikes on targets in Syria, 30 September and in its air campaign against rebels in that country using missiles and bombs with advanced guidance system.

Russia performed a variety of air intervention in areas which are under the control of the opposition, such as Talbīsah, Rastan, Ghent, belonging to the district of Homs, and the territory of Hama, Idlib and Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the UK, said that the Russian air strikes in Syria killed nearly 600 people, of which more than 100 civilians.

Russia claims to attack the fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and other insurgents in Syria and denies that the bombing of civilian casualties.

Assad's fate stumbling block

The question of the future of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is still a stumbling block in efforts to stop the war.
