Russian destroyers Turkish fishing boat to avoid a collision in the Aegean

Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that the crew of a Russian destroyer was forced to fire warning shots to prevent a collision with a Turkish fishing boat in the Aegean Sea.

The statement noted that the Russian destroyer "Smetljivij" was not able to establish radio contact with the Turkish cargo ship that was approaching, and that also failed to respond to visual cues.

It adds that the shots were fired warning when a Turkish ship approached the destroyer at a distance of 600 meters and that quickly changed direction, passing at a distance of 540 meters.

The ministry said that it called on the Turkish military attaché to talk about the incident.

Tensions between Moscow and Ankara have been intensified after Turkey in November shot down a Russian plane on the border with Syria.
