EU extends sanctions against Russia in six months
The European Union on Monday extended the economic sanctions against Russia by the end of July next year after the expiry of the deadline for filing objections and that no member state bloc did not contest the decision on sanctions.
Sanctions were initially imposed on 13 July 2014 after the Russian annexation of the Ukrainian region of Crimea.
Some diplomats in Brussels said that this could be the last time that the sanctions against the Russian financial, energy and military sectors are implemented fully.
France and some EU members are seeking renewal of cooperation with Moscow in the fight against terrorism, in an effort to end the war in Syria. Other members argue that there will be no rapprochement with Russia until the fulfillment of the conditions of the truce agreement reached in a Belarusian capital of Minsk, reports Reuters.
