Interior Minister of the German state of Bavaria, Joachim Herrmann, said the 27-year-old Syrian caused an explosion in a restaurant in the German town of Ansbach near Nuremberg late Sunday. He was killed, and injured 12 people, three of whom are in serious condition.

The attacker had a bomb in his backpack, and it exploded after he was refused entry to a music festival."The young man previously convicted for drug abuse and crimes of coercion", reported Al Jazeera reporter Nadina Maličbegović.

According to the Bavarian Minister, 27-year-old Syrian last year denied asylum in Germany, and has been twice previously attempted suicide.Herrmann said that despite the fact that he is refused asylum, the attacker is allowed to stay in Germany because of the war in Syria.
