Ratko Kovacevic, a spokesman of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA), told Dnevni Avaz said that manufacturers of cigarettes by 30 November the Administration must submit new prices. Only then will it be known how much the manufacturer to increase prices.

"In any case, if manufacturers and distributors who decide to form a price of a new tax burden being passed on to the consumer, cigarette packets should go up to 0.35 KM. According to the adopted decision, which is based on the Law on Excise Duties in BiH, from January 1, 2017 the minimum excise tax will amount to 2.42 KM, and the specific excise 1.35 KM for a pack of cigarettes, it was stated from the Board of Directors ITA BiH.

After the adoption of the Law on Excise in BiH in 2009 was provided to our country for several years, gradually increasing the amount of excise tax on tobacco and tobacco products in order to reach the level of 64 euros for 1,000 cigarettes, or the minimum excise tax in the amount of 2.60 KM per package, as it was determined the excise policy of the EU at the time of the adoption of the Law on excise Duties in BiH.

"In 2017, the minimum excise tax on cigarette packaging will amount to 2.42 KM, which means that we have not yet reached the minimum excise tax in the EU.
