Sweden continues to support BiH. Justice

High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC) continued its cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the project to improve court efficiency and accountability of judges and prosecutors.The first phase began in 2012 and was focused on the management of the courts, and the new contract is planned to reduce backlogs and independence of the courts.

The contract on the continuation of the project was signed by the HJPC Milan Talgetija Swedish Ambassador Anders Hagelberg, who said that the efficient work of judicial institutions is one of the basic preconditions on the road to European integration.

Through this project, the efficiency of the judiciary will be focused on: improving the situation of vulnerable groups in touch with the court, the strengthening of gender equality among judicial officers, to support judicial institutions through cooperation with judicial authorities of Sweden, to strengthen the capacity of the courts in a more efficient resolution of cases and the reform of the enforcement procedure in BiH judicial system and a strong fight against corruption.

President Tegeltija emphasized that the primary objective of the HJPC remains solve or reduce the number of cases in the judiciary.

- We are aware of the negative perception of the work of the BiH judiciary. This is not surprising because there were cases older than 20 years, but now it's all gone - Talgetija said.Ambassador Hagelberg said strong link BiH and Sweden that continues to be, in his words, will be continued. He recalled that Sweden more than 20 years helping Bosnia and Herzegovina in various sectors and there are many reasons for this, but one of them is a large community of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina living in his country.

It is alleged that about 80,000 Bosnians have found a home in Sweden.

- At the moment we are at the center of political relations, and I am sure that the respective trade to be strengthened - said Hagelberg adding that preparing Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards the EU remain the focus of the country it represents.Director of the HJPC Admir Suljagić also stressed the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries. He believes that the current confidence is justified and that the objectives of the previous projects realized.

He said that the Secretariat of the HJPC with courts continue to implement activities to improve the work of the judiciary, implementation of best practices to improve service delivery to citizens.

The project is funded by Sweden with about three million per project.
