Tensions / Donald Trump threatened Germany and sharply answered Angela Merkel

Donald Trump responded to comments by Angela Merkel that the United States during Trump's presidency became "an unreliable trading partner for Germany".

On Twitter, the US president said that America had a "huge trade deficit with Germany," and that they "pay much less than they ought for NATO and the army," and warned, "That will change."

The German Chancellor, in a visit to Bavaria, stressed that although US, Great Britain and Russia should maintain friendly relations, "Europeans must take their destiny into their hands".

It also points out that traditional Western partnerships have been threatened by the new US Presidency and Brexit. These statements followed Trump's, who said he needed more time to decide whether the US would continue to support the Paris accord, which was frustrated by European diplomats.
