Ukraine has to pay EUR 200,000 for the poor organization of the Eurovision
Eurovision song contest leaders punished Ukraine with 200,000 euros due to the poor organization of this year's competition in Kiev.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said the Ukrainian state broadcaster UA: PBC should pay a "substantial" penalty for "serious delays that caused unnecessary difficulties," the BBC reported. The EBU said that the country's decision to ban the participation of Russian representatives also "jeopardized" the reputation of this competition. UA: PBC will appeal against the sentence, Reuters reports.
The organization of Eurovision faced major problems before the competition in May. More than 20 important members of the Ukrainian team resigned in February, claiming they were not allowed to participate in decision-making regarding the competition. Problems were also created in the finalization of contracts with contractors of works that built the stage. One month later, the Russian representative of Julia Samoilova was forbidden to take part because she once visited "Crimea" illegally, entering the territory directly from Russia instead of Ukraine.
