Problems started: Slovenian police forced Croatian fishermen, Croatian MUP intervened
Croatian police today recorded three cases of violation of the line of delimitation at sea, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of Croatia announced.
"The MUP will inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs about all violations of the line of demarcation," the MUP of Croatia said. Two days after the Arbitral Tribunal's decision in The Hague on a border dispute which Croatia does not recognize, Slovenian police ships have entered the Croatian sea three times today, as the Croatian media writes. Fisherman Danilo Latin told Hin that there was a "close verbal encounter" between the Croatian and Slovenian maritime police in the Piran Bay today.
"The Slovenian police today warned two Croatian fishing boats that sailed to the current line of demarcation, but the situation is calm," Latin said. Croatian media say that one of the fishermen, after the police patrol warned them to be in Slovenian territorial waters, denied that they were Croatian waters. After the Croatian police arrived, the fishermen continued to lay the net.
The arbitral tribunal ruled that Slovenia belonged to three quarters of the Piran Bay, and Slovenia was granted free passage through part of the Croatian sea. Croatia does not recognize arbitration.
