"Textbooks in Croatia and Serbia teach young people to hate"
The DPA (Deutsche Presse Agentur), which is transmitted by most of the most important media in the German-speaking region, has in one text these days addressed school textbooks in Serbia and Croatia, which reads how young people from both countries learn to hate each other.
"And after 25 years since the break-up of Yugoslavia, it's barely confronted with that war. Instead, students in Serbia and Croatia learn a one-sided and non-historical version of the past, "the DPA notes at the outset, according to Index.hr.
Aleksandar Miletic, a historian from Serbia, is quoted as saying that the history of the students there "teaches intolerance and hatred", which is cited as an example of a textbook for the third grade of the grammar school, which says that for centuries Albanians, Montenegrins and Bosniaks have been shown to the core corrupt, while the Serbs always acted with the purest moral intentions.
The status of the victim since the 19th century
"The most important textbooks of history in Croatia and Serbia indoctrinate children and rage against their neighbors. In textbooks everything is presented in black and white without gray areas. The position of one's own people as a victim is already proven in the 19th century learning. Every guilt is always absolutely on the other side. The terrible crimes of members of their people are regularly described as "vengeful actions of individuals" and thus diminished. While the "we" were always peaceful and the conflicts were to be solved exclusively through diplomatic channels, "they" were only engaged in aggressive conquests, "describes DPA as a general tone of history textbooks in Croatia and Serbia.
It is said that in Croatia it is learned that the independence of the state is actually a reaction to the centenary wishes of the Serbs to rule over the Croats, while the students in Serbia learn that the Serbs have always only defended themselves from "fascist Croatian nationalism" and would otherwise have been exterminated. Serbia is, however, a role model for democracy, which, unfortunately, is a constant victim of the "world conspiracy", and the following sentence can literally be found in one textbook: "What did not succeed in Fascist Croatia in the Second World War later made Euro-American democracies." the "disappearance of Serbs" from Croatia. Of course, the "Austrian-German conspiracy" against Serbia is mentioned.
