BiH buys helicopters with the help of Americans

BiH acquires two new helicopters and two light fire extinguishers for light multipurpose helicopters.

The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has decided, at the proposal of the Ministry of Defense, to procure helicopters for the needs of that ministry and the Armed Forces of BiH with a value of 65 million convertible marks (33.2 million euros), reports Anadoli.

The multi-year project will be implemented by 2021 with the financial assistance of the US government and on the basis of a signed agreement between the two states.

The BiH Ministry of Defense for two helicopters secured savings of 6.2 million KM (3.2 million euros) from its budget, including reducing travel expenses, transportation, fuel, material purchases, rental of property and equipment.

At the same time, US $ 5 million (EUR 4.2 million) will provide the United States with its donation from a military aid program based on an agreement signed with the BiH Council of Ministers in 2001.

Turkish aid is also coming

The dynamics of financing from budget funds in the coming period is conditioned by the adopted Global Framework of Fiscal Balance and Policies in BiH for the medium term.

The Council of Ministers and the Presidency of BiH have earlier endorsed the Ministry of Defense's demands for the acquisition of two new medium-sized helicopter transport helicopters and two light fire extinguishers for light multipurpose helicopters due to the shortage and age of existing aircraft.

A proposal for a military-financial cooperation agreement between BiH and Turkey was also established, by which the official Ankara will donate EUR 2.5 million to help the Armed Forces of BiH in resolving the issue of defense equipment and capabilities.
