DAILY EXPRESS WARNING: Finland will be the first country to recognize Catalonia and launch an avalanche in the EU
Finland could become the first country to officially recognize Catalonia as a republic, writes London Daily Express,
That move could have directly confronted this Scandinavian country with the European Union.
A deputy from Lapland, Miko Karna, has announced that he will submit a proposal to the Finnish parliament to recognize the new country, the paper said. Karna, who is from the ruling party of the center led by Prime Minister Juha Sipil, congratulated Catalonia after the regional parliament voted on secession from Spain on Friday. If Finland officially recognized Catalonia as a new state, it would be just another blow to the EU that strongly supported a united Spain, the paper said.
"If Finland recognizes Catalonia, it would hurt the European Union and its refusal to recognize the new status of that country." At the same time, according to the London Diary, the President of the European Commission and a member of the controversial Bilderberg Group, Jean-Claude Juncker, warned that there are "cracks" within the EU due to the earthquake in Catalonia that lead to clefts in the Union. The Scottish Government also sent a message of support, stating that Catalonia "must have" the right to determine its own future.
The Scottish government said it "respected and understood" the attitude of the Catalan government, and criticized the central government in Spain for "refusing dialogue". "Daily Express" says that Argentina could formally recognize the Republic of Catalonia. The left-wing deputy of Argentine Socialist Juan Carlos Giordano, who represents the province of Buenos Aires, said that he would be proposing in the parliament a proposal to recognize this South American country in Catalonia.
