Government Decision / HNK: Maternity will receive 100 percent of the salary during maternity leave

The Prime Minister of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) Nevenko Herceg announced that soon the payment of maternity leave for parents in this canton will be returned to 100 percent, Vecernji List of BiH writes.

Namely, after the Law on the Protection of the Family with Children was adopted, the generations that are employed are determined to receive 80, and not 100 per cent salary.

This is an aspirational decision, the newspaper writes, since this category of the Family Protection Law with children has reduced income. And such a situation lasted for months. Herceg announced that this provision will be urgently abolished, but by the end of this month.

Changes since June

"I expect him to be born in June to receive 100 percent of salaries in the canton, and not 80 as it was before. I instructed the competent ministers to do some analyzes and submit data on the effects of the Law on the Protection of Families with Children,"

He added that after these analyzes, he will see how the law needs to change in order to be more efficient and better than it is now.

"At the very beginning of the application of the Law, we said that after a few months we will see what the effects are and what we need to change. I expect that the ministers will soon deliver the required analyzes and then we will know in what direction the changes of the law will go in. In any case, the Family Protection Act will be changed, "explained Herceg.

Otherwise, a part of the reasons why the unions of education announced the possibility of a strike was that personal incarceration of the child was reduced to 80 percent during maternity leave. Now the rules will be changed and the fathers will still receive a full salary.

"The law has not been adopted to reduce maternity wages in state institutions and companies during maternity leave, rather than giving birth to those working in private companies to finally get the necessary protection from malicious employers.

There were many cases in which pregnant women were dismissed because they remained in a different state, and the Family Protection Act provided for severe penalties for such behavior by employers. We said that the law needs to be improved and we expect that this will soon be done, "concluded the interlocutors from the Croatian government.

Five million marks

Otherwise, the Family Protection Act brought the annual cost of five million marks. Herceg and his associates have repeatedly stated that they are aware that the child allowance is low and that it needs to be increased, but at this time it was not possible to provide more money in the budget for this purpose.

It remains to be seen whether after the announced analyzes, the situation will change when it comes to children, and not just the fathers.

Given the large demands of the trade unions, it is difficult to expect that the Government of the HNK will succeed in securing more money for the mentioned categories of budget users. More information on this topic should be known in a few weeks.
