Welcoming cheap fuel in BiH: "It will be a consequence"

The Steering Board of the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH in Sarajevo will propose amendments to the law on excise duties.

If the consent is reached, the law will be referral again to the Council of Ministers of BiH. Earlier there was no political consent to amend this law. Without amending the law there is no money from international creditors, without that money, the authorities say, there are not even new kilometers of the highway.

Šefik Džaferović, deputy chairman of the House of Representatives of BiH Parliament, said that he believes that PS deputies will ultimately assess that an increase in excise is necessary for BiH.

"The whole world is advising BiH to do it. We heard representatives of the EU, BiH. analysts who are serious about economics say that this is the right path to go to BiH. Fuel prices in BiH are the lowest in the region, and BiH has the space to impose an excise tax of 15 fening. We will see what will happen tomorrow, "said Dzaferovic.

He stressed that without amending the law on excises, there is no economic development in BiH, there is no mass construction of roads.

"This would give a strong impetus to the overall economic issue of BiH," Dzaferovic said.

Asked what if changes to the excise law were not adopted, Djaferovic replied:

"I hope it will be adopted in both homes. If he was denied, we heard all possible consequences. There are no funds from the Western Balkans Transport Community, no funds from international institutions, no economic progress in BiH, and everyone will have to bear responsibility for the consequences, "he added.
