Billions in the hands of the (political) elite: Will a tax on wealth be introduced in BiH and what would its citizens get?

Bearing in mind that the total wealth in BiH according to studies, determined by different methodologies, estimated between KM 114 and 218 billion, the introduction of wealth tax can be a significant source of funds for the new dimension of a socially fair policy in BiH.

By introducing a wealth tax, we can create a much more just society, and redistribution of wealth will reduce unjust differences among our citizens, the SDP of BiH claims.

Aner Žuljević, a SDP BiH delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced that this party will again send an initiative to the entity government in terms of introducing a wealth tax."Two years ago, we launched an initiative for the introduction of wealth tax, but the Government of the FBiH rejected this, saying that the current measures are satisfactory, that is, we have a universal income tax of 10% and that this is enough.

I do not know where the distinguished prime minister and his associates live, but what we see is a huge injustice and a big difference between the rich and the poor, and we consider that wealth tax is a necessary instrument of solidarity in order to help those living in poverty or under the borders poverty.

Recently, several studies have emerged that have confirmed the justification for the introduction of wealth tax and have made us give this government another chance to show that they are not exclusively protectors of capital, which have so far been promoted by their reforms and the impact on workers.

If the authorities again refuse, the SDP will make the wealth tax a part of Plan 10 and do everything it can to introduce it to the new government after the October elections, "Žuljević said.

Bearing in mind that the total wealth in BiH according to studies, determined by different methodologies, estimated between KM 114 and 218 billion, the introduction of wealth tax can be a significant source of funds for the new dimension of a socially fair policy in BiH.

"Trend in our society in which wealth accumulates in the hands of a few, ie, in the hands of closed circles of political-economic elites, it must be treated adequately and socially equally.

Taxation of wealth is an important component of the tax policy function, as it points to political orientation and orientation towards the whole system of measures, which should lead to greater economic and social equality.

Our society must not be reconciled with the situation in which it is normal for us to have the same tax treatment of hundreds of millions of people, and that hundreds of thousands of marks are being driven by the streets, while at the same time half a million citizens live on the border or below the poverty line.

We clearly emphasize that we have nothing against rich people, so that we want to send this message only to send a message that we need a greater element of solidarity within the tax system in order to protect the most vulnerable categories of our society, says the eu statement of SDP BiH.
