Nobody discounts the Spanish King: 'The referendum on Catalonia's secession was illegal' CATALANIAN PRESIDENT: 'We declare independence in a few days'

Spanish King Felipe VI said on Tuesday that the referendum on Catalonia's independence was illegal. In a televised address, the King called the organizers of a referendum on illegal behavior

He said the organizers showed "a lack of loyalty" to Spain and that voting could cause economic damage to the region and the entire country, the BBC reported.

He also suggested that Spain find a way to overcome these difficult times.

In the meantime, Catalan President Carles Puigdemont gave the BBC the first major interview after the referendum, declaring that independence will be declared in Catalonia for several days.

"We will act on this issue by the end of this or the beginning of the next week," he said.

Asked how he would react if intervention by the Spanish authorities came to take control of the Catalan institutions, Puigdemont replied that it would be a 'mistake that changes everything'.

He noted that there is currently no communication between his administration and the central government in Madrid, led by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

Tens of thousands on the streets

We also recall that the referendum does not stand the protest of tens of thousands of people who are fighting against police violence that erupted on the day of the referendum on Sunday, when the police tried to prevent voters from responding to it.

Police intervention left hundreds of people injured and unrest in several big cities. In Barcelona, hundreds of protesters gathered between the regional center of the People's Party of the Right Center, the ruling party in Spain. "Out of Barcelona fascists," shouted from the street.

After 18 hours, protesters propagated the main Catalan city with flags symbolizing independence and highlighting banners.
