Germany on its feet: In Berlin, thousands of people protested at a rally against immigrants and Angela Merkel.
The immense influx of immigrants has led to a great deal of concern for the citizens that AfD used to enter the parliament last year and become the largest opposition party
Several thousand protesters from all over Germany gathered in Berlin on Sunday for a "Freedom and Democracy" rally, an event organized by the far right parliamentary Alternative for Germany (AfD), and thousands of people gathered in the opposite direction on the other side of the river. In the afternoon AfD's supporters marched from the main station to the Brandenburg Gate, shouting to the party's favorite party: Chancellor Angela "Merkel must go" and "We are the people".
On the other side of the Spree River, near Reichstag, thousands of trade unionists, ordinary citizens of Berlin, and members of some associations and parties competed right, and prevented AfD's supporters from passing through a previously blocked block by blocking them with a bridge. Security was worn by about 2,000 policemen. Participants of the procession, who are heading for the Brandenburg Gate, are expected to meet the leaders of the party, Joerg Meuthen and Alexander Gauland.
AfD estimates that about 5,000 people arrived at the rally, while earlier they announced that there would be a thousand. This party started as a Eurosceptic platform, but in 2015 it gained new political points after Merkel announced the open door policy for refugees and migrants from Syria and Afghanistan. Large influxes of foreigners have led to a great deal of concern for the citizens that AfD used to make the last year's parliamentary elections and become the largest opposition party, winning 12.6 percent of the vote.
But the success of the party has also created a resistance movement that consists of groups that have united under the umbrella organization Stop Hatred.
