Italian mafia linked to murder of journalists in Slovakia?
Persons from Italian organized crime may have been involved in the murder of a research journalist in Slovakia, said Canadian journalist Tom Nicholson.
The bodies of 27-year-old Jan Kuchjak and his girlfriend Martina Kusnirove were found on Sunday evening in their house in Velka Maca, east of Bratislava. Nicholson, who lives in Slovakia, says that Kuciek told him before the death that he was working on a story about the possible involvement of the Italian mafia in fraud related to EU subsidies in eastern Slovakia.
The same issue was published by Aktuality.sk, for which Kuchjak worked. The SME list, for which Nicholson was speaking, also said that two Italian businessmen with possible mafia links operated with one senior adviser to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fice. Fico dismissed those allegations.Kuchjak is the first journalist who was killed in Slovakia, and the government has offered a million euros to anyone who helps capture killers. The Slovak police say that the murder is related to his journalistic work.
