Study: Stress causes brain contraction!

A new study found that living a stressful life can lead to the reduction of important parts of the brain.

Researchers at the University of Yale have discovered a decrease in the amount of gray matter in parts of the brain that controls physiological and emotional functions in those areas that survived a significant amount of stress.

According to a statement on Yale's website, the study was watched by more than 100 healthy subjects by conducting magnetic resonance scanning while answering questions about potentially life-threatening events, including the loss of a loved one, work or home.

"They found that even the brain of a respondent who had only recently had a stressful episode shows significantly less gray matter in some areas ... an area of the brain that regulates not only emotions and autonomy, but physiological functions such as blood pressure and blood glucose," said are for the public.

Project author and assistant professor of psychiatry, Emily Ansell, added that an increase in the amount of stressful life events, if any, could affect the individual's ability to handle future stressful situations.

Associate Professor Yale and Foundation Foundation professor Rajit Sinha, who works at the Department of Neurobiology at the Yale Children's Center, said the study highlights the increased importance of finding ways to help people deal with stress correctly.

"The brain is dynamic and plastic and things can be improved - but only if you are dealing with stress in a healthy and healthy way," Sinha said. "If not, the effects of stress can have a negative impact on both our physical and mental health."

The study was reportedly financed by the National Institute of Health, and was published earlier this year in the journal Biological Psychiatry.
