Difficult conditions for migrants in the tent settlement near the City Hall

The worse conditions and the growing number of migrants are the shortest description of the situation in an improvised tent-site formed by migrants in the over-crowded Sarajevo City Hall.

Migrants, including a significant number of children, help mostly humanitarian organizations, among which are "Merhamet", the Red Cross of FBiH and Pomozi.ba, as well as individual citizens of Sarajevo.

The Muslim Charity Society "Merhamet" daily helps migrants from Syria and other countries that have been temporarily sheltered in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among other things, "Merhameta" employees in Sarajevo and Bihac visit the locations where migrants are staying and supply them with food, food, clothing and hygiene goods, the Anadolu Agency reports.

President of HO "Merhamet" MDD Hajrudin Šahić says that this humanitarian organization will continue to assist migrants in the Canton Sarajevo, Unsko-Sana Canton and other locations where necessary.

"Merhamet" is trying to find and find the best solutions for migrant care, among which numerous families with children, in discussions with relevant institutions in BiH. "Merhamet" discussed this issue, among other things, with representatives of the Ministry of Health refugees and displaced persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, "said Merhamet, who has now found shelter in BiH, since their arrival, in accordance with their capabilities, regardless of the fact that state bodies and competent institutions are slow to operate," Šahic said.

According to him, "Merhamet" has doubled its efforts since the beginning of the refugee wave in BiH.

"Our goal is to provide these people with the most basic help in food, clothing and hygiene, and we are confident that this problem will be solved systemically so that our help will be more efficient." Merhamet's help is not a one-off character, we are present on the ground every day migrants so that they would not be hungry, with similar problems we have faced us from 1992 to 1995 and that is why our citizens are particularly vulnerable to migration problems, "said Šahic.

Recently, an urgent meeting was held in the municipality of Stari Grad on the occasion of the growing number of migrants in Sarajevo from which a call was made to the competent institutions for urgent resolution of the problem of migrant accommodation. Conclusions from the meeting were addressed to the BiH Presidency, the Council of Ministers of BiH and the BiH Ministry of Security, and the concrete steps taken by these institutions are expected.

Since January, the Department of Foreign Affairs of BiH has processed nearly 3.500 migrants. This is three times more than the total number of migrants in 2017.

Task Force Director Slobodan Ujić said this week that two cantons hit and currently have the most migrants from Canton Sarajevo and Unsko-sanski canton. He said that both cantons need to find solutions and make accommodation capacities that will be out of the settlement.
