Trump set an ultimatum and told the EU slaves: 'Buy expensive American, not cheap Putin gas!'

Trump asks the EU to build LNG terminals (one is planning on the Krka) for gas from the US and thus reduce energy dependence on Russia

he wants to avoid a trade war between America and Europe, German Chancellor Angela Merkel should give up Nord Stream 2, build another submarine pipeline between Russia and Germany, and instead start importing more US gas through the LNG terminal, said US President Donald Trump directly Chancellor Merkel in their recent meeting in Washington, reveals yesterday's edition of the Wall Street Journal.
Merkel yesterday paid an official visit to Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, and although it was announced that Iran and Ukraine would dominate in their talks, and North Stream 2 imposed a hot topic.

Threatened with sanctions

The United States believes North Stream 2 will increase Europe's dependence on Russian gas and that bypassing Ukraine, through which now a large part of Russian gas is on its way to European consumers, this country will be further weakened. Poland and a number of other EU members, including Croatia, also expressed opposition to the North Stream 2. However, the gas pipeline nevertheless began to build it a few weeks ago.

Trump, however, decided to intensify pressure: his administration threatens economic sanctions against companies involved in the construction of North Stream 2, and according to the WSJ, Trump said that Chancellor Merkel not only wants the Russian gas pipeline to stop, but that Germany shows goodwill by building capacities to import US gas through the LNG terminal. One such LNG terminal is planned, unfortunately slower than expected, and on Krk in Croatia, and the support of this project was also given to President Trump when he was at the Summit of the Three Seas in Warsaw last summer.

Most favorable for Europe

But it seems that the Germans, and also EU officials, do not like the Trump style trying to sell gas that is simply simply not competitive with Russian gas, the most favorable option for Europe.

- It seems that the Trump strategy is to force us to buy more expensive gas, but as long as the LNG is not competitive, Europe will not agree to some sort of racket and pay the extra gas prices - quotes the WSJ unnamed EU official.

At a press conference with Merkel in Sochi, Putin said that Trump "is not only a president but also a businessman and wants to secure the sale of LNG to his companies." - Is that possible? It is, but it is very expensive - concluded Putin.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke to the Foreign Minister of Sweden yesterday, among other things, on "the danger that North Stream 2 poses for Europe's energy security," the State Department said. Sweden must also give and can withdraw a gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea.
