A new border incident between Chinese and Indian soldiers
Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed, and there were stoning, in a new border incident in the Himalayas, Indian sources said today.
The incident occurred at a time when Indian and Chinese forces have been facing for two months in the strategic Himalayan plateau of Doklam, the territory of the kingdom of Bhutan.
Soldiers of the two countries confronted more than 1,200 kilometers yesterday, in the Ladakh area of Kashmir, on Indian Independence Day.
According to a source from the Indian Ministry of Defense, Chinese soldiers attempted twice to enter the Indian territory in the Pangong Lake area, an altitude of 4,200 meters, but Indian forces rejected them.
"There were two minor incidents. From the Chinese side, stones have been thrown, but the situation is under control," the official said, who asked him to remain anonymous.
After the incident, both sides returned to the starting positions.
"These things happen every summer. This time took a bit longer and more serious, but there was no use of weapons," a source from the police in Shrinagar said.
India and China have two territorial disputes in the regions of the north and east of India. In the war that led in 1962, China defeated the Indian troops.
