An initiative was made that the Tuzla airport be named after Alija Izetbegovic

Members of the Tuzla Canton Assembly (TK) Muamer Zukić and Midhat Čaušević of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) at today's session have called for an initiative to appoint the International Airport in Tuzla according to the first President of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović.

According to the initiative, the Tuzla Airport would be named the International Airport Alija Izetbegovic, and whether the initiative will be adopted by the parliamentary majority is not known at the moment.

Otherwise, this is the second time that an initiative is being launched in BiH to have one of the airports in our country named Alija Izetbegović.

Namely, in 2005, a proposal was made that the airport in Sarajevo be renamed Alija Izetbegović International Airport, but the then High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, after consulting with members of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council, suspended the decision to rename.

He then announced a procedure to ensure that all international airports in BiH can only be renamed after extensive consultations and approvals from relevant state-level institutions.
