US ambassador to united nations: UN 'abused' and 'violently behaved' towards Israel over Palestine and Gaza
US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley says she "started shouting at all" when she saw UN members constantly "abusing" Israel for settling in Palestine and pressuring protesters in Gaza
"It was embarrassing, how much the international community was bad about Israel. That reminds me of an abusive child at the playground, "said Haley at the annual American / Council of America (AS / COA) annual conference that took place in the State Department on Tuesday.
"I simply will not accept that. It was disturbing to watch that I started shouting at all "- she added.
Haley told everyone in the UN that "we are guarding Israel's back, and if they collapse on Israel, they would have big problems with the United States."
Haley's main theme was Latin America, and then sat down to talk with John Negroponte, the former US envoy to the United Nations during the George W. Bush administration.
Negroponte blamed Israel and often "had to" intervene to veto a resolution against Washington's Middle East ally.
"It's truly a culture in the UN to be constantly bombarding Israel," Haley said.
Numerous UN resolutions called for Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, which Israel controls from the war in 1967 with Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Israel officially joined the whole of Jerusalem, but the Palestinians and most of the international community declined to acknowledge this claim.
In December, when President Donald Trump decided to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the UN General Assembly largely voted to condemn such a move, but the US delegation "stood proudly" and took over the humiliation, Haley said.
The relocation of the embassy "had to happen, she explained. For decades, US presidents have said they must postpone that step or "the sky will fall".
"Well, President Trump did it, and the sky is worse," Haley said.
She did not mention that the decision sparked protests throughout the Muslim world and prompted Palestine, who, like Israel, sees Jerusalem as its sacred place. Nevertheless, Haley claimed that the US "is trying to encourage" Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to "come to the table" and "that Palestinians and Israelis truly find a solution in the best interest of all people in the region."
So far, three Latin American countries have followed US leadership in relocating their embassies to Jerusalem. Haley specifically calls on Honduras and Paraguay, but not from Guatemala for some reason.
