Vucic: Agreement with Albanians is in Serbia's interest
For a legally binding agreement with Kosovo, there must be a majority will of the Serbian society, the Serbian president said.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that it is in the interest of Serbia to reach a legally binding agreement with the Albanians and that for its attainment, there must be a broad consensus and the majority will of the Serbian society.
"It is in Serbia's interest to reach an agreement with the Albanians, regardless of whether we will become a member of the European Union or not, but, if this happens, I am convinced that the [Union's] door would not be open, but wide open, he said.
Vucic told the Vecernje Novosti on Wednesday that he will come out with his proposal for a solution to the Kosovo issue when he considers it to be good for Serbia and when it is possible to get a certain result.
The Union only refers to Kosovo
"And to bridge the gross domestic product and be the champion of reforms, the EU will ultimately make us conditional on the Kosovo issue. There is no doubt that this is a key issue and whenever something else tells us, they actually think of Kosovo. solutions, "Vucic said.
He said that it is neither realistic nor possible for Serbia to do anything without getting anything, and that the Albanians must understand this, because they will not have a future if there is no agreement.
Asked about the acceptability of the previous proposals for the solution of the Kosovo node, Vucic said that from "some big players on the world stage" got something that resembled principles, which is a "non-paper".
"And if she was asked whether she would accept such a thing, Serbia could hardly provide such a positive answer," he said, adding that the great Western powers proceed from the fact that the territorial issue of Kosovo was resolved by gaining independence .
None of NATO membership
He said that they would not give up on that, but that Belgrade is trying to see what it can get for the Serbs in Kosovo, and for Serbia, the agency Beta reports.
"This is not just a matter of Serbs in Kosovo ... They are the most important, their safety, security, life, economic progress, perspective, future. But that's not the only issue for them, it's a question for all those who live in Serbia" , said Vucic.
He once again reiterated that Serbia has no aspiration when it comes to NATO membership.
