Memories of the thousands who have not reached freedom.

At dawn on the eighth of July 2006, I traveled to Nezuk, a village situated in the northeastern Bosnia, between the Majevica mountains on one side and limit the Drina canyon from the other side.

The final destination was all I knew of geographic data. For everything else I had Almas, which I, by the way, listing the essential things: That the Nezuk fought two heroes, the one that died, and finally to the village, in July and August 1995, received thousands of survivors Srebrenica residents, who, along the route of death, arrived to the free territory.

Word for word, and historical lessons has become a reality - I found myself in a crowd marching towards Potocari, in memory of the thousands who have not reached freedom. Behind us remained Nezuk, glade where they are only a few minutes earlier tempest hundreds of Bosnian flag, monuments to national heroes ... Others are valuable tips for resume times.

Survivor
I was in the column, among thousands of people, but still, somehow, I left the village in each subsequent search of a story that bears witness to the terrible days of July. And such was.
The pit on the Black top, who hid hundreds of bodies of killed from Zvornik, was the first story. The youngest victim was exhumed only two months. Oldest entered the ninth decade of life. Found the mother and the unborn child. It was one of the biggest mass graves in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The following story is told Muharem Mujanović, resident forces. He survived the shooting. His 35 relatives and neighbors were not.
"I fell down before the shooting started. I have not moved around. However, the soldiers took us by the arms and thrown into the garage. Then they set fire to all! I crawled away from the garage on fire. The next day I came to the free territory, "he said.

The same ones who were shooting at Muharram, the day before killed and his neighbors from the village of Liplje. They set up the first camp, in which, according to the competent Prosecutor's Office in Tuzla, raped nearly 60 women. For a crime no one ever answered.
In Kamenica, talked story pits next to the road. The village has concealed 15 secondary mass graves containing the remains found murdered Srebrenica. All were discovered, and then the village was called the valley of graves.

Throughout the valley, these July days of my first march, silence. The column several kilometers long silently watched the ruined country.
Last Srebrenica war reporter
And then we arrived at Udrč, mountain that stretches above the valley tombs. It's back to the memory of Nina Catic, the last war reporter in besieged Srebrenica. Several survivors of the July 1995 talked to Nino until Udrc, was in the column. After it has never been seen.
Will be remembered his report, sent to state television several hours before entering the Army of the Republic of Serbian in the then-protected enclave of Srebrenica:

"Does anyone in the world can come to see the tragedy that is going on Srebrenica and its inhabitants. This is unheard of crime that is performed against the Bosniak population of Srebrenica. The population in this town disappears! Whether behind this Akashi, Boutros-Ghali, or someone else? I'm afraid that Srebrenica will be more important, "reported Catic.

On the third day we marched to the Kamenica hills and the infamous "Bukvi". Bizarrely, "Beech is our first session! When we arrived at Kamenička hill we were almost 10,000! Then the shooting started. Mined tree began to fall on us. Those who were not killed by the explosion or falling trees, were left without shelter - at gunpoint. "

A tombstone was first erected in Šušnjari. On July 1995 in the village of Podrinje gathered nearly 15,000 Srebrenica. After a brief consultation, not in a place where 16 years later rested column in which I was there, they began to march.
According to unconfirmed information, the freedom came a little less than a third of gathered that morning. The fate of the other witnesses testify to the route of the death of Nezuk across the Black top and power up Kamenički hills and the infamous "Beech". Witness the white tombstones erected in the Memorial Centre.

As we enter the Potocari, noticing the tears in the eyes of the people who are with me, in the past three days, crossing 120 kilometers - through the death of Nezuk to Potocari. I believe the eyes of tears because of the number printed on the plate in front of us: 8372!
On Sunday, a new march - the same way and on the same occasion.

In the morning on Sunday began a march of peace, pedestrian walk, which is held every year as part of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica and its surroundings, with a view to honoring the victims.
On July 1995, almost 15,000 of Srebrenica gathered in Podrinjski Susnjari village and marched through the woods. According to unconfirmed information, the freedom came a little less than a third of the audience. The rest of the marchers were killed in an ambush.

The Peace March, previously known as the Death March, involved thousands of people from many countries of the world. The starting point of the march is Nezuk village, which in 1995 received the survivors of Srebrenica.
The march ends at the Potocari Memorial Centre on Tuesday night.
